Whoever said "The 3rd Times the Charm" never broke their wrist! Tyler had his 5th surgery on his wrist on Sep. 23. We were hoping that this would really be his last surgery. He was in his last cast for 6 weeks post-op. We lost count around the 13th or 14th cast... We were so stoked to find out from the X-Rays that Tyler's metacarpals (wrist bones) finally decided to fuse together! He may be short 2 metacarpals in that wrist, but he doesn't mind, just as long as the damn thing heals and he can go on pain-free. His optimal range of motion in that wrist is 30 degrees (a right angle is 45). In order to reach the 30 degrees goal, he goes to physical therapy twice a week. Physical therapy is painful, but we both were very excited that he could start it back up again. The last time he had physical therapy was a year ago, and he only had about 2-3 sessions when the physical therapist felt like something was wrong. Tyler was in way too much pain during the physical therapy sessions. We never went back to therapy until now. I was so excited when the doctor told us that he only needed to wear a brace when it gets achy and to start physical therapy. It was like Christmas morning in October. Needless to say, Tyler isn't completely out of the surgery woods. If he can't get his range of motion up to 30 degrees, he will need to have the scar tissue cut to allow for his wrist to move. Despite all of the surgeries, pain, casts, braces, doctor visits, X-Rays, and pain pills Tyler has come out a stronger person - unlike his right wrist!! Hope for 30 Degrees and I don't mean Temperature!!
